About Information Technology Services

Welcome to the web site for Information Technology Services (ITS) on the campus of Texas A&M University at Qatar. ITS responsibilities are divided into four areas: User Services & Instructional Technology, Applications, Computing Operations, and Research Computing.

• Applications provides support for:  the universities web site and TAMUQ's online resource site; business process analysis; development of desktop and web-based database applications; and coordination of the use of College Station, Texas based administrative systems for student information, financial accounting, and payroll.

• Computing Operations supports:  desktop computing, file storage, printing, and email services; student laptops, PC, UNIX, and multimedia computing labs; network services, including connections to the Internet and Internet2; and home networking.

• Research Computing supports: a large multi-node cluster of G5 Xserve servers dubbed SAQR (Supercomputing Applications in Qatar for Research); and a multi-terrabyte storage area network (SAN) based on technology from Apple Computer and ADIC.

• User Services & Instructional Technology supports: helpdesk and technology consulting; classroom and distance education technology, including WebCT; end-user and instructor-led software support and training; and h.323 and Access Grid based video conferences; and the production of audio-visuals and streaming media.

The heads of these departments, together with the chief information officer, constitute the ITS management team. The ITS management team, through the TAMUQ faculty and Operations Council, manages the technology operations on the Qatar campus.
